Royel Otis is a duo that go way back as Otis has specified that this was the ‘ colab he had been chasing his whole life’. Covid hit in the midst of their start up and they were only able to release their debut EP which had the title “Campus” in 2021. With a total of 5 songs in this EP they have amassed over 4.7 million streams on Spotify. The top song in this album, “Without You” has over 2 million streams by itself.
In 2022 they released the albums “Bar and Grill” and “Oysters In My Pockets” which have done well for them as well, if you want to see a seek peak have a look at the link below. Royal Otis’s song “Sofa Kings” peaked at number 43 on the ARIA charts, this was the first of their hits to receive a position on the charts. Their song “Going Kokomo” was included in the EA Sports FC 24 sound track.
In October of 2023 the duo announced they were going to release “Pratts and Pain” the album, in early 2024 which has since peaked at number 10 on the charts. They also received a lot of attention for their cover of “Murder on the Dance Floor” on Triple J, and Australian radio station. This rendition of the song reached the ARIA charts and Sofie herself gave them the nod of approval.
Royel Otis has been nominated for many awards including the Australian Video of the Year for their hit “Kool Aid” in 2023, Best New artist in 2024 and emerging songwriter of the year.
