Hailing from the UK, synth-pop masters of the New Wave genre, OMD - al Manoeuvres In The Dark, just announced the North American leg of their headlining tour in support of last year's Bauhaus Staircase. The trek kicks off this September and wraps up by the end of October. Scottish band Walt Disco will be joining OMD as their special guest.
Five decades since the genre dominated the scene, it still sounds as fresh as the early '80s with OMD keeping their legacy alive. The beloved duo, Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, shared a roster of new tracks that serve their iconic synth-pop sound with a modern twist. Six years since their last album "The Punishment of Luxury", the duo still has what it takes to make it big in the industry. "Bauhaus Staircase" hit #2 on the UK Official Albums Chart. It serves their newest hit songs "Slow Train", "Veruschka", "Kleptocracy", and the beloved title track "Bauhaus Staircase"
"We are so excited to be able to tour again with a brand new album to showcase," McCluskey shared about the tour through a press release, via NME. "It’s been six years since we learned new songs for live performances. The songs from Bauhaus Staircase will fit beautifully into our setlist – we just have to choose which five to play, as we have to treat people to the hits as well!"
About one of their new singles "Slow Train", McCluskey expressed how it feels to create new music at this time, and observe people's expectations of the band after decades in the scene. "‘Slow Train’ is a bonkers song and the video is stunningly crazy! It feels nice to be able to challenge people’s expectations of the band after 45 years of creating music."
In 2022, the band celebrated their 40th anniversary, marking iconic songs that shaped New Wave for decades to come. As a follow-up to 2017's highly-praised album "The Punishment of Luxury", their 14th LP is their most explicitly political release yet. Written during the Covid-19 lockdowns, even expressing a desire to be both Stockhausen and Abba.
Having sold over 25 million singles and 15 million albums, they sure are one of the UK's beloved pop groups. 14 albums in, there's no stopping OMD's place in the New Wave.
