From bursting onto the club circuit in the early to mid-2000s to debuting on Broadway, Mike Birbiglia has become a staple in the entertainment scene and touring world.
In 2004, he dropped his very first comedy album, called Dog Years. But that wasn’t his first rodeo as he was already a mainstay in The Moth storytelling series and a regular guest on radio shows like The Bob and Tom Show and This American Life. What’s more, the legendary Mike Birbiglia turned heads with his off-Broadway hit, 2008's Sleepwalk with Me. Based on his experiences with a life-threatening sleep disorder, Sleepwalk with Me was so popular that it was later adapted into a best-selling book, Billboard chart-topping comedy record, and critically revered indie movie. After another movie wearing the hat as writer and director (2016's Don't Think Twice), Mike Birbiglia made his Broadway debut with 2018's The New On. Beginning in October that year, the smash hit show enjoyed a three-month run at Broadway's Cort Theatre and later premiered on Netflix. The New On included candid discussions of his experiences as a husband (of poet J. Hope Stein) and was inspired by the perils of fatherhood. This star-studded performer returned to the top spot on the Billboard comedy chart again in 2019 with the epic Thank God for Jokes.
