Many comedians prefer to prepare their skits before they go on stage. However, this preference is not true for all. There are those individuals who love the spontaneity of doing stand-up comedy. For these comedians, being in the moment matters more. Among the comedians who are motivated by the spur of the moment is Mark Normand. Since his beginnings in the 2000s, he still feels that impromptu skits are better than prepared ones. He thrives in his experimentation. It paid off. Currently, he is a powerhouse in the comedy industry.
As he said in an interview: "I'm not very writer-y, so I'll just come in with a bunch of ideas and let the audience take it in the right direction."
His comedic skills were first honed in the humble Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar, an establishment in Orlando, Florida. His journey from that bar to stardom was slow but steady. It took him seven years, moving from one state to another, to get to where his career is now. His success came in 2013, but even before that, he was the talk of the town. This was the time when he moved to New York and went across the March Madness competition of the Carolines on Broadway (a stand-up venue on Broadway that closed down in 2022). This competition catered to 64 comedians, and Normand was chosen as the winner. After this, it was a smooth sail towards fame.
Comedy Central then became the perfect platform for him to rise among the ranks in the following years. In 2014, he debuted on The Half Hour and recorded an album called Still Got It. His Comedy Central Don't Be Yourself then came out in 2017.
Another step towards stardom occurred when he began acting. He appeared on shows Inside Amy Schumer and Horace and Pete.
As a seasoned stand-up comedian, this year will not be perfect if he does not go on tour. "Ya Don't Say Tour" will reach the Moore Theatre on June 21. It is high time that you get to experience a night full of laughter and enjoyment. Tickets are now available!
