What a treat for musical theater fans! This October, John Cameron Mitchell will perform a plethora of songs - ranging from Hedwig and the Angry Inch to some Broadway hits and many more. The set is unpredictable, and Mitchell is at the mercy of the Cassette Roulette. The show is a retrospective trip as Mitchell and his band, Tits of Clay, deliver some excellent music for the evening! This fantastic production also brings along international cabaret star Amber Martin as a special guest. Mind you; this is not your ordinary concert. Since Mitchell has a flair for dramatics, you will see characters, his various personas, and more. Cassette Roulette also has an excellent creative team comprising music director Justin Craig, lighting director Jojo Fronjoine, costume head Erik Bergrin, and a video by Michael Zumbun.
John Cameron Mitchell has quite the tenure on Broadway. His first stage role was in the 1985 production of Huckleberry Fin. He also performed as Dickon in the Broadway adaptation of The Secret Garden. Mitchell has also done exemplary work in off-Broadway musicals, such as Hello Again and John Guare’s Six Degrees of Separation, The Normal Heart, and Destiny of Me. His acting work has won numerous accolades, including an Obie Award and multiple Drama Desk nominations.
In 1998, Mitchell wrote a Tony-Award-winning musical, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The groundbreaking rock music was initially an off-Broadway project. Three years later, it was adapted into a feature film that stars Mitchell as the main character, Hedwig. In 2014, Hedwig and the Angry Inch was launched on Broadway with Neil Patrick Harris as the lead star. The musical went on to win four Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. The following year, Mitchelle reprised his role as Hedwig during a few runs. His performance later won a Special Tony Award.
Apart from musicals and plays, Mitchelle has also appeared in a number of films and TV series. He has made appearances on Day Break, Law & Order, Party Girl, Shortbus, The Good Fight, and Shrill. In 2022, he starred as Joe Exotic in Joe vs. Carole. Earlier this year, Mitchell was cast as one of the main characters for the American Crime Drama City on Fire.
