It's a musical adventure that's sure to leave you with a smile on your face and a song in your heart!
Why catch this tour? Well, it's not your average concert. Joe's nine-piece band will take you on a musical journey with two distinct parts. First up, Joe rocks the stage solo with his original hits. Then, get ready for a blast from the past as Joe and the crew resurrect the songs of Max Champion, an English Music Hall artist from the early 20th century. These tunes haven't seen the light of day in over a century – talk about a rare musical treat!
Born in 1882 in the lively East End of London, Max Champion was likely part of entertainment royalty, possibly related to the legendary Victorian entertainer Harry Champion. During his rising career, Max graced the stage alongside big names like Gus Ellen and Vesta Tilley, becoming a shining star of the Music Hall scene. However, the outbreak of the First World War abruptly halted both his career and the Music Hall era.
By 2019, Joe Jackson got wind of this musical resurrection and decided to breathe new life into Max Champion's forgotten tunes. With a 12-piece orchestra, Joe embarked on a journey to revive the magic of Max and let these hidden gems shine once more. The result? "What A Racket!" – an album that brings the spirit of Max Champion back to life for modern ears.
According to producer Joe Jackson, "These were wonderful songs in their time, but they're surprisingly modern, too. Sometimes it's almost as if Max is speaking, from his London of the early 20th century, directly to us in the early 21st."
