Prolific pop-jazz artist Jamie Cullum found commercial success upon the release of his 2003 album, Twentysomething. The album peaked at number 3 on the U.K. chart and U.S.’s Top Jazz albums. The album was also an international success, entering the charts in 17 other countries. Twentysomething sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. It was also certified triple platinum in the U.K. Furthermore, the album was recorded as the fastest-selling jazz record in history.
After his fantastic breakthrough, Cullum continued his chart-performing streak with his subsequent releases. In 2005, he dropped his fourth studio album, Catching Tales, and spawned hit singles “Get Your Way,” “Mind Trick,” and “Photograph.” The album became Cullum’s first number 1 in the U.S., dominating the Top Jazz Albums. Moreover, it also became the first album to enter Billboard 200’s Top 50.
Jamie Cullum’s remarkable music has earned numerous accolades. Around the time of Twentysomething’s release, he won several new artist awards. In 2003, he was named the Rising Star at the British Jazz Awards. The following year, he won Best Newcomer at the Silver Clef Awards and Best Jazz Act at the MOBO Awards. He was also nominated for British Breakthrough Act and British Male Solo Artist at the Brit Awards. In 2005, Cullum won Artist of the Year at the BBC Jazz Awards and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Album for Twentysomething.
