He’s the man behind the iconic “Manitowoc Minute” and a host of your favorite podcasts “The Cripescast” and “Bellied Up” — It’s no other than CHARLIE BERENS. A familiar face from the MTV News show “Choose or Lose” and covering Wisconsin state news, he’s built himself an image for his Midwest-inspired antics. Writing a New York Times bestseller book “The Midwest Survival Guide”, he’s the man to look for when you’re feelin’ the mood for some hilarious Midwest fun. Now, he’s taking it all to the LIVE stage at the GOOD OLD FASHIONED TOUR.
“There's a love for the outdoors, there's a love of taking care of your neighbor, being overly kind,” the man says about his status as the perfect ambassador for Wisconsin, via CBS News.
Starting out in the news industry, the man faced some hurdles in the industry. “I got voice coaches tell me talk different 'cause I didn't think I was gonna be able to make it in news otherwise,” he told CBS. “When I started doing comedy, the nice thing about comedy is your biggest weakness is sort of your biggest strength as long as you can make it funny enough.”
With success as a journalist, he found himself gaining massive public attention for his comedy projects, especially as he launched his minute(ish)-long news show, “Manitowoc Minute”. From Midwest news to all sorts of culture and weirdness in the mix, he quickly won everyone’s hearts, laughing it all out. Now, he’s got a stand-up special, three sold-out tours, and a best-selling book. From getting crap about his Wisconsin accent, he found gold in making everyone laugh. Featured on Comedy Central, Funny or Die, Variety, Fox, CBS, and many more, audiences are surely hooked on his shenanigans.
“I started doing stand-up just to keep myself sane. I had this great show and I was doing this bit. A super Midwest news guy, really, and that really saved my set, he told CBS News, explaining how he turned it into a video — and that’s when everything changed.
With all-new material in time for the tour, you can expect even more hilarious stories, punchlines, and all-out weirdness at his Good Old Fashioned Tour. Taking over the stage at Moore Theatre, it’s the perfect venue for his stand-up performances. The hall’s stunning architecture matched with its comfortable seats definitely passes the vibe check.
