Bailadores de Bronce has been an institution in the Pacific Northwest for over 50 years. The company was started by students at the University of Washington way back in 1972. This initial group was filled with Mexican students and those of Mexican descent. Their idea was to create a dance group that would celebrate their roots. In the last 50 years, that idea and tradition has been kept alive by the various generations of folks who’ve taken up the mantle. Today, Bailadores de Bronce is always the go-to folklór dancers that people call for events. If the Mexican Consulate in Seattle wants to put on an event, this is who they’ll call. One of the great things about the shows that this company puts on is that they understand it’s not just about the dance.
If you’re going to be in the crowd watching a Mexican folklore dance, you’re also going to want to sing along with the lyrics of the songs. “Pelea de Gallos” is a popular track that Bailadores de Bronce like to dance to. If you’re at the Moore Theater on Friday, October 25th, you’re not just going to be sitting quietly in the crowd. You could burst into song and rail off, “A laaaa Feria de San Marcosss.” Mexican music is not necessarily meant to be a formal endeavor. It’s actually always been geared more towards the party scene. If you want to be at the Moore Theater to celebrate Dia de Muertos, you can’t go wrong by bursting into song here and there. Your typical mariachi battle cry is going to be encouraged as well. The goal is to make sure that everyone on this night has a ton of fun!
As things stand, only the middle part of the theater is going to be open for this showcase on October 25th.
