Starting off his early life in Sacramento and being raised in Bakersfield, California, Gregory Porter was brought up by a minister mother who always encouraged him to sing and to pursue his musical talents. After graduating in 1989, Gregory focussed on his athletic career and wanted to become a successful footballer, with a scholarship in place, it all seemed like it was set in stone, but in his junior year, Gregory suffered from a shoulder injury and was no longer able to follow through with the football training.
As he went on to change up his career to find his new passion of persuing a life dedicated to making music, he took to the live stages across the local scene and throughout the years progressed into the artist we know of him today.
With his newly found success, Gregory Porter was now the talk of the town and no one could get enough of what this talented musician had to offer and just a year after the release of Liquid Spirit, Gregory received a Grammy for Best Vocal Jazz Album.
His smooth and flawless vocal tone draws people in and with his outstanding concerts and showcase on UK TV shows such as; Jools Holland and BBC One's The Graham Norton Show – he has become a worldwide sensation!
