Synopsis

STOMP is an upbeat, witty and speechless show that has been watched and loved all over the globe. An eight-member cast with heaps of energy to burn creates stunning music and artful humor with found objects, including Zippo lighters, broom sticks, wooden poles, hammer handles, trash cans, inner tubes, matchboxes, and even the kitchen sink. There’s no conventional narrative; both household and industrial objects are transformed and find new life as musical instruments in this unique blend of percussion, movement and visual comedy. It is an immersive journey through sound, a celebration of the everyday, and a witty interplay of characters speechlessly communicating through dance and rhythm.

Creative Team

The creative team includes the incredibly talented drummer and percussionist from Brooklyn, New York, John Gavin. Before joining the North American tour of STOMP, he performed for Disney at their theme parks throughout the United States. Also lending their talent to the show is the Brooklyn-based music director and musician Jude Caminos (from ​​Lizzie: The Musical); New York native Micah Cowher (from  Rock of Ages, Shrek the Musical, Monty Python’s Spamalot, Footloose, and Bayside the Musical); skilful Spanish actor and musician Jose Filgueira; the highly sought after drummer and percussionist John Gavin; musician and jack of all trades Declan Hayden; contemporary dancer based in Astoria, Madeline Jafari; dance artist and performer Zahna Johnson; Queens-based performer Jasmine Joyner; percussive movement and rhythms phenomenon Cary Lamb Jr.; comedian, drummer, and actor from New York, Sean Perham; Mexican movement master Ivan Salazar, as well as percussion motivational performer Cade Slattery.

History and Awards

Established in the summer of 1991 in Brighton, UK, STOMP was born out of a ten year collaboration between its creators and directors, Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. Officially debuting at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the show has gone on to trek across the world ever since, with record smashing runs at London’s Royal Festival Hall, La Cigale in Paris, and at the Orpheum Theatre in New York City’s East Village. Along the way, STOMP has been awarded an Obie, an Emmy (for the HBO special Stomp Out Loud) as well as a well-deserved Olivier award. In 2003, Steve McNicholas and Luke Cresswell secured the impressive Innovator Award at the American Choreography Association in Los Angeles. Over the years, STOMP has performed at the Oscars, the Emmys, The Royal Variety Show (a whopping 3 times), as well as the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.

After celebrating 25 years (pre-pandemic in 2019) and 11,475 show-stopping performances, STOMP ended its 29 year run in New York City on the 8th January 2023. And now, it’s embarking on a huge North American tour to a city near you, including major venues at Seattle, WA, Dallas, TX, and Orlando, FL, and many more!
