The incredible artist who’s taking the Bob Dylan tribute to stages across the world is none other than Cat Power! She's a singer-songwriter, musician, and also a model. Real name Charlyn Marie "Chan" Marshall, Cat Power isn’t just a catchy stage name - it was originally the name of her first band before she rocked it solo.
Her musical journey kicked off in the early '90s when she started jamming in local bands in Atlanta. After opening for Liz Phair in 1993, she teamed up with Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth and Tim Foljahn of Two Dollar Guitar. They recorded not one, but two albums on the same day in 1994 – "Dear Sir" (1995) and "Myra Lee" (1996).
In 1996, she took a big step, signing with Matador Records and dropping her third album with Shelley and Foljahn, titled "What Would the Community Think." And that was just the beginning. She went on to release the highly praised "Moon Pix" (1998), working with members of Dirty Three, and "The Covers Record" (2000), a collection of beautifully arranged cover songs.
Next year, she's all set to take her new live album, "Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert," on tour. The singer is recreating the magic of Bob Dylan's epic show in London. All fans are in for a treat because she's taking this show across North America and Europe.
Things will kick off on February 12th in Red Bank, New Jersey.and she's hitting up cool spots like Nashville, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC, before wrapping things up in Seattle on March 13th. Then, in April, Cat Power is crossing the pond for some European and UK dates – Stockholm, Berlin, London, and more are on the list.
Fun fact: Cat Power first recreated Dylan’s Royal Albert Hall concert at a show in London in November 2022. The show was recorded and turned into a live album.
When Cat Power brings the show to Seattle, be sure not to miss out! This is your one and only chance to enjoy not just her own artistry, but also Bob Dylan’s!
