Norwegian alternative folk band Wardruna are headed out on one of their biggest world tours yet in support of their newly released album, Birna. The album came out this past January, and it was their first full-length original release in four years. They’ll be going far and wide for this tour, but you can catch them when they grace the stage at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. Tickets are on sale now, so grab them while you can.
Since they started their musical journey with their debut album, Runaljod - Gap Var Ginnunga, Wardruna have been leading the hoard of Nordic inspired folk music with an edge. Born from the Norwegian black metal band Gorgoroth, Wardruna holds some serious darkness within their music. But don’t be afraid; they’re just as human as the rest of us. Don’t believe me? With a mix of dark, gothic ambiance and classic Nordic folk essence, Wardruna are possibly one of the most interesting bands in the scene. Their blend of darker elements of sound with mesmerizing traditional folk instrumentals makes them truly something special. In part, some of this grittier, tainted sound could be credited to founding members of Wardruna meeting through working together as members of black metal heavy weights Gorgoroth. But no matter what way you look at it, one thing remains the same: they’re a truly amazing group of musicians, so get your tickets to see them while you can. You better be there!
While Wardruna was formed after its founding members left a certain notorious Norwegian black metal band, their music is far from extreme in the same way. However, Gorgoroth has spent their entire career tied to Satanism, while Wardruna’s dark elements veer slightly ominous at worst. Possibly the most exciting part about Wardruna’s upcoming world tour is the fact that they’ll definitely be playing some of the songs off of their brand new album, Birna. The album was released back in January of this year, and it has fans hungry for more. That “more” fans are itching for is coming in the form of the band's multi-leg world tour spanning the bulk of this year. The tour is set to bring the band far and wide, with dates throughout the US and Europe at large.
Even better, the tour will kick off on March 17th in Liverpool, England at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, and it’ll come to a close in Strasbourg, France at the Palais Des Congres-Salle Erasme, but you can be sure to catch them a little closer to home.
