We’re so excited to welcome The Buena Vista Orchestra (A.K.A. With fifty five dates planned and from June to November and ten Cuban musicians taking the reins, there’s no telling what we can expect from the shows - but, of course and above all, we’ll get good music and classic hits from BVSC.
The Buena Vista Social Club is a music ensemble formed in Havana,Cuba in 1996. Named after a member’s only club located in Havana’s Buenavista quarter, the group’s first of two albums dawned the same name when it was released in 1997, and quickly became an international success from New York City to the streets of Paris. The group took off into stardom, and played multiple shows and also had a documentary made during their performances by the German film director Wim Wenders - also named Buena Vista Social Club. The film won many awards and accolades in the European film circuit, and cemented BVSC as one of the best groups coming from Cuba as the millenia turned. The group is credited with sparking interest and bringing attention to traditional Cuban music around the world, and now, they want to attract a new generation of music listeners to the sound.
Speaking on their world tour and the experience they want to give new listeners, the group (both Ramos and Steven Machat) have said “My dream was to come to the US with the Buena Vista Orchestra to play the music that shaped my life,” said Ramos. “When I met Steven Machat, I said that this dream was somewhere over the rainbow and he told me to let us see that dream together, and we will build the rainbow that will get you there,”. Machat added by saying “I felt it was important to share this splendid Cuban music with the world. Cuba is still a forbidden fruit in the eyes of my country and although the Buena Vista Social Club educated a generation to their multicultural songs and sound, I thought the time was right to let the new generations experience, applaud and dance to the music,”. And - we’re ready to experience it all!
So - bring your best buds and come ready to dance, because the Buena Vista Orchestra will be here soon! Get your tickets right away, and we’ll see you on August 9th!
