After becoming an official member of the band Maroon 5 in 2012, PJ Morton has risen to prominence. Thanks to his soulful voice, superb musicality, and incredible talent in songwriting, he made a name for himself outside of the band. He released his debut EP, entitled "Following My First Mind," in March 2012, wherein he featured Adam Levine and James Valentine on its lead single, "Heavy." The EP, which was made for free by the artist, was well-received by both fans and critics. Thus, it didn't take long for Morton to release his first major-label debut album, "New Orleans." In March 2016, he released his "Bounce & Soul Vol. 1" mixtape. This was immediately followed by another EP in July, entitled "Sticking To My Guns." Both records signaled the independence Morton wanted for his career, which led to him releasing his first self-released studio album "Gumbo." Despite not entering the US Billboard 200 chart, the album earned the Louisiana-native two Grammy Award nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
Morton released a Christmas album the following year and another album in 2019, entitled "Paul." Produced by Morton himself, the album incorporates R&B styles with elements of soul music. It also featured guest appearances by Tobe Nwigwe, Jazmine Sullivan, Rapsody, JoJo, and Angela Rye. The album was nominated for three Grammy awards and won "Best Traditional R&B Performance" for the song "How Deep is Your Love." The song "Say So" earned Morton his first top-10 single on Billboards Adult R&B Songs chart and eventually gave him his second Grammy for Best R&B Song. In 2021, his "Gospel According to PJ: From the Songbook of PJ Morton" won Grammy's Best Gospel Album. Recently, he won the coveted Album of the Year in the 2022 Grammy Awards for his 8th studio album, "We Are."
This year, another critically-acclaimed album was released by the multi-Grammy artists. Dubbed "Watch the Sun," the album brings a "beautiful cadence with its summery atmospheric textures, whimsical melodies, and vibrant production." To promote the new album, the "Watch the Sun Tour" is on its way to making this year's summer more meaningful. This six-month tour commenced in May and will continue until October. Morton will stop at Moore Theatre on September 17, 2022 (Saturday). If you are looking for a soulful evening filled with incredible songs, this show is definitely for you.
