The Nepali folk rock legends of Nepathya, with frontman Amrit Gurung, are making their way to the Moore Theatre in Seattle on Friday, May 23rd. Amrit Gurung is not only the frontman for Nepathya, he's also the only founding member that remains with the band. There's no question that the entire musical concept has been remade in his image, particularly over the last few years. There's something about a guy with long gray hair singing about peace and love that just fits. A lot of the political elements that Nepathya has decided to sing about, particularly since the early 2000s, were influenced by his personal views. The iconic look with the glasses that Amrit Gurung comes out on stage with is meant to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. At least, that's what Amrit Gurung has said on previous occasions. It fits not only his persona, but it has also become part of the aura of the band in recent times.
The lyrics or, more specifically, the motives behind these don't mean that it's a boring show by any means. If there's one thing that Nepathya is known for, it would have to be their mixture of Nepali indigenous beats with those of classic rock and roll.
