The incredibly talented and genre-defying Anoushka Shankar will be celebrating 30 years of stage performances in 2025 with the release of her highly anticipated third chapter in the trilogy, written and released as an ever-evolving story between tours.
It is undeniable: Anoushka Shankar is one of the leading figures in world music, with her roots firmly in the Indian classical music tradition. With the foundations laid by her legendary sitar-maestro father, Ravi Shankar, she gave her first performance at the mere age of 13 and assisted her father in his landmark album, “Chants of India”, produced by George Harrison. Her debut album, “Anoushka”, was released in 1998, and she also became the youngest person in world music nominated for a Grammy Award for her third album, “Live at Carnegie Hall”.
If there was any doubt in Anoushka Shankar’s musicianship, let the proof be in the accolades: she is the youngest and first woman to receive a British House of Commons Shield and received no less than nine Grammy Award nominees; she received a co-nomination for an Ivor Novello Award for her original score for “A Suitable Boy”, as well as receiving two ACTA Awards – one for her score for “Shiraz” and the other for outstanding achievements in the Indian classical and progressive world music scenes. She also received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from the University of Oxford for her contributions to the field of music.
Anoushka Shankar is fearless when it comes to exploring crossovers between Indian classical music and a variety of genres, including electronica, jazz, flamenco, and Western classical music. The result is a unique sound that transcends genres unlike anything else, breaking new ground. Her mastery across genres also led to collaborations with a wealth of superstars, such as Nina Simone, Lenny Kravitz, Madonna, Eric Clapton, Elton John, and Sting.
The 1,800-seat Moore Theatre is as much part of Seattle’s arts scene as Anoushka Shankar is part of the world music scene. With its unique mixture of Byzantine and Italianate styles, the interior of the theatre is spectacular. The luxurious seating is spread across the main floor and balcony, with unobstructed sightlines – the ultimate in comfort!
